This website
features the art work created by the students in the Advanced Placement, Studio
Art classes at Reseda High from 1975 to 1988. In May of each year,
portfolios of these students were mailed to the National College Board in New
Jersey for evaluation. Every student received the top score of "five".
Reseda High is part of the Los Angeles Unified School District.
In
the 70's Gene Gill painted abstract designs on several layers of clear
plastic. Each layer was set into a frame and spaced 1" apart. The
background was a sheet of polished aluminum, also spaced 1" from the sheets
of plastic. All this was set into a polished aluminum frame.
The image constantly changed as the viewer moved around and as the lighting
changed. This website features some of these works, plus screen prints
that the artist created during the same period.
The
paintings on this website represent the early and formative years of artist
Gene Gill. From art school thru several years after graduation, his
work was totally figurative. However, as his work matured, the figure
gradually took on less importance until it totally disappeared.
The works presented on this website represent the many low and high plateaus
as an artist struggles to claim his identity.
